Sex Work, Sex Trade, Prostitution & Human Rights
In just 2 weeks, we’ll kick off the Summit (8/14-17) with an all-day Institute:
In only 7 weeks, folks will come together from all over the country – in fact, the world – to affirm sexual freedom as a fundamental human right. We’ve been counting down the weeks for you and telling you about our Vicki Sexual Freedom Award recipients, our workshops, our social events, and now – THE FIRST INSTITUTE!
On Thursday, August 14, 2014, we’ll hold our all-dxoxoxay Institute, Sex Work, Sex Trade, Prostitution and Human Rights! This Institute, suggested and organized by the fabulous Kate D’Adamo, will explore the human rights issues that pertain to any individual who engages in any form of commercial sex. You may know Kate from her outstanding organizing work at Sex Workers Outreach Project – NYC, and Sex Workers Action New York, or from her work at Persist Health Project. Or you may know her from her earlier work at the International Commission for Labor Rights, Global Workers Justice Alliance and the Open Society Foundation. She’s a powerhouse, and she’s bringing together a host of other high profile advocates, activists and scholars to explore the intersections of sex work criminalization, economic justice, and human rights.
We’ll be talking about everything – including trafficking and the unintended consequences of ignoring lived experiences of sex workers – but we’ll be talking in terms of where we are AND how we craft the change we want to realize.
Whether you are new to thinking about sex work issues, or you’ve been on the front lines of the struggle for sex worker rights, this institute is one you won’t want to miss!
